Indian Railways has discontinued more than 2.5 crore IRCTC users ID. Railways have taken this step to prevent disturbances in online ticket booking system.
This action has been taken after the identity of suspected booking patterns and user behavior through advanced data analytics. The government has confirmed this in response to the questions raised by MP Eddie Singh in Parliament.
MP Singh had raised many questions about the rapid ticket disappearance in ticket booking, user ID deactivate and the steps taken by the railway.
The government in its reply gave clear information on four points:
1.5 crore user IDs were deactivated?
IRCTC has deactivated more than 2.5 crore user IDs to prevent fraud in ticket booking. At the time of data analysis, the activity of these IDs was found suspicious. Such as unusual booking patterns, using bots or agents.
2. Plan for digital improvement in railway reservation system
Railways have introduced several digital reforms to increase transparency in ticket booking and prevent fraud. These include-
- Aadhaar Authentication: From 1 July 2025, only Aadhaar authenticated users can book Tatkal tickets only through the IRCTC website or app.
- Ban restriction on agents: In the first 30 minutes of immediate booking starts, agents do not have permission to book tickets.
- Digital Payment: Digital payment facility has been provided at the passenger reservation system of the railway ie PRS counters.
3. disappearance of tickets in minutes
The government admitted that some popular routes and convenient time trains tickets end within a few minutes of booking. However, less busy trains usually have tickets available. According to the demand, railway special trains run and also increase the seat capacity of trains.
4. Steps for transparency and ticket availability
Railways have taken several measures to ensure confirmed tickets for passengers and bring transparency in the system –
- Online Booking: Currently 89% of tickets are being booked online, which are available on the basis of first come-first serve.
- Option Plan: Under the Alternative Train Housing Scheme (Vikalp) and upgradation scheme, an attempt is made to give confirmed tickets to the passengers.
- Special trains: Railways run special trains on the basis of demand and add additional coaches to existing trains.
What is the purpose of railway?
Railways have to make the target ticket booking system more transparent, secure and travel friendly. With steps such as Aadhaar based authentication, promotion of digital payment and tightening of activities of agents, the Railways wants to ensure that common passengers easily get tickets and stop fraud.
This action will not only reduce disturbances in ticket booking, but will make railway services better by using digital technology. Railways appeal to passengers to use the official IRCTC platform and avoid suspicious activities.
