Tech company Apple has announced the closure of the retail store in China. The company will close its store located in Parkland Mall in Dalian city on 9 August. This is the first time Apple closed an outlet after opening the first store in China in 2008.
However, the company said it was focusing on maintaining market share in China and opening new stores in markets like India, Saudi Arabia, and UAE.
Apple has a total of 56 official stores in China.
The company will close the store due to mall ribranding
The company explained the reason for this to the changing business atmosphere in the mall. In fact, Parkland Mall was recently rebranded as Inteime City. After a change in its management, many big brands closed their stores.
Apple said, “We decided to close our store due to several retailers leaving Parkland Mall.” The company said that Apple’s second store in Dalian will be open in Olympia 66 mall, which is 10 minutes away from Parkland.
Apple’s 56 stores in China
Apple made it clear that Apple’s strategy in China and the new store shutdown in China, Apple made it clear that it was not backing down from this market. The company has 56 stores in Greater China, which is more than 10% of its over 530 global stores. Apart from China, Apple is planning to open new stores in India, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Detroit.

Apple focusing on production in India
Apple is focusing on the production of iPhone in India, moving away from China. 78% of iPhones sold in America are being made in India. According to market researcher Canalis, between January and June in 2025, India has a 23.9 million (2 crore 39 lakh) iPhone, which is 53% higher than the previous year.
According to research firm Cybermedia Research, the export of iPhone from India (iPhone sent abroad) has also increased to 22.88 million (2 crore 28 lakh) units. Last year, the figure of iPhone manufacturing in India was 15.05 million (1 crore 50 lakh) in the same period (January to June). That is, it has increased by 52% on an annual basis.
Talking about business, iPhones worth about Rs 1.94 lakh crore were exported from India in the first half of 2025. Last year, the same figure was Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
Left China behind in terms of exports to America
In April of 2025, 33 lakh iPhones were sent from India to America. At the same time, the number of mobiles sent from China was 9 lakhs. 78% of the iPhones that were built in India were sent to the US. Last year the figure was 53%.
