The second showroom is made in 8,200 square feet

Tesla’s second showroom at the Aerosity Worldmark Complex is built in 8,200 square feet, which is near Indira Gandhi International Airport. The company has also started its first super charging station in this complex today (4 August). It has 4 V4 supercharger (DC Fast Charger) and 4 Destination Charger (AC Charger). Super Chargers charge at a speed of 250kw, it will give a range of about 300 kilometers in just 14 minutes of charging.

The price of the super charger is Rs 24 per KWH and the Destination Charger is priced at Rs 14 per KWH. Tesla car owner Tesla’s app can check the charger empty or not. Apart from this, you can see the progress of charging and also pay.

The station is the first of the 8 super charging sites that Tesla announced during the launch in Mumbai. These 8 super charging will be opened in Delhi and Mumbai. The company’s plan is that such stations will also be opened in cities like Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore, so that EV users will be easier in the whole country.

1. Search for a new market due to decrease in global cells

In the Global Market in the year 2024; Tesla’s sales have fallen, especially in America, Europe and China. In Germany and Italy, it fell by 76% and 55%. India is the third largest auto market in the world and the market share of EV is around 5%. Therefore, Tesla seems to see new growth opportunities here. EV demand is increasing in India. In India, 99,165 electric vehicles were sold in 2024 with a growth of 19.93%.

2. India’s new EV policy

The new EV policy reduced the import duty from 100% to 70%, provided the company invests ₹ 4,150 crore in the EV sector. It will be reduced to 15% when it starts manufacturing at local level in three years. This gave Tesla a chance to import electric vehicles like model Y with low tax.

3. Demand in premium EV segment

The demand for luxury EV is increasing in India. Tesla’s model Y (₹ 59.89-67.89 lakh) targets the segment, which will compete with BMW IX1 and Mercedes EQA. The Indian EV market is expected to sell more than 28 lakh electric vehicles by 2030.

5 major challenges in front of Tesla

1. High import duty and price: Tesla vehicles will be imported in the form of CBU (Complete Built Unit). Due to import duty and GST on these, prices reach the premium segment, which will be expensive for mass-market customers. There are sales limited in this segment.

2. Limited Charging Infrastructure: Tesla has planned 8 supercharging stations in Mumbai and Delhi. The lack of charging in rural and small cities can reduce the benefit of Tesla’s higher range.

3. Customer Behavior: Indian customers prioritize service, costs and recylers. Here Tesla will have to prove his credibility.

4. Service and Dealership Network: Tesla’s direct-to-conjumer sales model (online sales) is new in India and its service network is still limited. Brands such as BMW, Mercedes, and Tata have a challenge for a strong dealer and service network Tesla across the country.

5. Local manufacturing delay: Tesla’s proposed Gigafactory in Gujarat/Karnataka is less likely to start before 2026-2027. Till then, you have to depend on the high priced imported vehicles.
