Indian Railways has announced to install hi -tech CCTV cameras in all 74,000 train coaches and 15,000 locomotives (engines) in the country.
To further strengthen the safety of passengers, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has approved this project in the meeting held on July 12.
The decision was taken after a successful trial in Northern Railway, where response was taken from passengers and railway staff.
4 cameras will be installed in every coach
Railways will install 4 dome type CCTV cameras in every coach. There will be two cameras at each gate of the compartment. Apart from this, 6 CCTV cameras will be installed in each engine. Their position will be on both front, rear and engine side.

Railways will install such dome type CCTV cameras in all its coaches.
Latest technology cameras will be installed for quality footage
In the engine, one dome camera and two desk mounted microphones will also be installed in every cabin (front and rear) of the loco.
These cameras will be of STQC certified and latest technology, so that high quality footage is also available in speed and low light.
Cameras will be installed only in the common area
Keeping in mind the privacy of railway passengers, only cameras will be installed in the common area near the door. Its involvement officers have also been instructed that there should be no compromise on the quality of CCTV footage and data security.
AI will be used in CCTV data
Railways will also use AI on CCTV data in collaboration with India AI Mission, which will make the identity of suspicious activities easier.
With this, the theft, molestation, looting and antics of anti -social elements in trains will now be closely monitored. Strict action will also be possible on those who damage railway property.
