On Saturday, the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers issued a notification under the Drugs Prize Control Order (DPCO), 2013.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has reduced the prices of 37 essential medicines to 10-15%. These include drugs such as paracetamol, atorvastatin, and amoxicillin, which are essential for patients with heart, diabetes, and infections.

On Saturday, the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers issued a notification under the Drugs Prize Control Order (DPCO), 2013. These new prices will apply to 35 different forms, which are made and sold large pharmaceutical companies.

NPPA reduced prices of these drugs

Pain and fever: The price of a combination tablet of Ekloophens, Paracetamol and Tripsin Chimotripsin will now be ₹ 13 for Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and ₹ 15.01 for Cadila Pharmaceuticals.

Heart disease: Drugs with a combination of Atorvastatin 40 Mg and Clopidograil 75 Mg will now be available at ₹ 25.61 per tablet.

Sugar: The price of combinations like Empagliflose, Citagliptin, and Metformin has been fixed at ₹ 16.50 per tablet, which is very important for patients with type 2 diabetes.

Vitamin: Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) drops and diclofenac injections have been priced at ₹ 31.77 per ml. In addition, prices of cholesterol and allergic-esthema drugs have also been limited.

Prices were increased in May

Earlier in May 2024, the government has decided to increase the maximum price of 8 schedule medicines. These drugs are used to cure many other diseases along with asthma, TB, glaucoma.

The maximum prices of eleven scheduled formulations of eight drugs were approved to increase their existing maximum prices by 50%.

Decreased price when expensive

Prices of drugs have increased in the last few years, causing patients to have problems. After this, the price of essential medicines has been reduced. The aim of NPPA is to make drugs cheaper and available to all.
