On Thursday 7 August, the Unified Payments was down due to the Unified Payments Interface i.e. UPI service technical issue across the country. Due to this outage, users are facing difficulties in payment from digital payment platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm.
According to the platform down detector, who described the real time status of the website and online services, 2,147 complaints were filed after 8 pm. All these complaints are related to payment failure.
About 60% of people have difficulty in paying
About 80% of the people who were facing the problem faced a problem in paying. 47% of people had difficulties in transferring funds. Many users are also complaining about UPI service down on social media platforms.
NCPI operates UPI
RTGS and NEFT payment system operations in India are with RBI. The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) operates systems like IMPS, Rupay, UPI. The government had a zero-charge framework mandator for UPI transactions from 1 January 2020.
How upi works
For UPI service, you have to prepare a virtual payment address. After this it has to link to the bank account. After this, there is no need to remember your bank account number, bank name or IFSC code etc. The payment bus processes the payment request according to your mobile number.
If you have its UPI ID (e-mail ID, mobile number or Aadhaar number), then you can easily send money through your smartphone. You can make not only money but also utility bill payment, online shopping and shopping with unified payment interface system.
